Movie Review: obsessed with the end of the world

I don't know why I find myself obsessed with Until the End of the World. I can watch it again and again. The film is clearly flawed and awkward, unlikely, off-balance and over the top. Why, for example, is it necessary to traipse the world over for digital images -- Henry and Sam could have stayed in the same room, filmed each other and avoided the risk of taking the camera through innumerable customs checks and past bounty hunters in matching blue hats and trench coats. I would accept these incongruities if Wenders intended to make a fantasy, but the film is more tied down than that, despite its near-future setting. This could be chalked up to the stylized nature of the film. While the film can be pretentious, it is also deep and a fascinating probe of the father-mother-son triangle and the subliminal mind. Additionally, it is often just fun.
