Movie Review: High Stakes Cat and Mouse Movie
Summary: 4 Stars
I enjoyed this movie based on the real life exploits of Catholic priest Hugh O'Flaherty (Gregory Peck) who risked his life to save the lives of thousands of others, including numerous POWs from the hands of the Germans. Based out of the Vatican which maintains a delicate position of immunity/neutrality, O'Flaherty uses an extensive network of contacts to aid him in his work. The acting by Peck and Christopher Plummer as SS Col. Herbert Kapler, is first rate and the script is quite good for the most part.
There is a brief synopsis at the end of the movie of what became of Col. Kapler. It is disappointing however that with such great factual material to work with, a documentary was not included as a special feature on the life of Monsignor O'Flaherty. My other complaint is the lack of English subtitles for those of us who are hard of hearing.
