Movie Review: Great for all levels of fitness

I liked this tape a lot. There are no outdated moves and it is surprisingly modern for being 15 years old. You have to fast forward through the first 10 minutes of talking and interviews. This is Kathy's first workout video, and it seems like she is trying to establish herself and introduce her program. She does give some basic good tips on diet and committing to a routine.(This would be great to put on a DVD that way you could quickly select the segments you want to view.) The video showcases celebrities such as: Justine Batement and Beverly D'Angelo and you get to see them work out with Kathy.
The workout consists of:
1) Beginning Step Workout 20 min. (traditional step moves) and cool down
2) Intermediate Step (more advanced moves) 15 minutes and cool down
3) Advanced Step 15 minutes (advanced) and cool down
4) Weights 10 minutes
5) Floor Work 8 minutes
6) Abs 8 minutes
7) Stretching 6 minutes
I am a beginner, so after the Beginning Step workout and cooldown, I fastforwarded to the weight section, then to the ab segment and finished with stretching. Since I know how much time each segment is, I just set my VCR display time and fastforward through 30 minutes to skip the next two step workouts. The Beginning Step is quite a workout and will get ya sweaty. You could hear Kathy and Jami Gertz getting a little breathy near the end. I've been exercising to other videos and they didn't get my blood up near as much as just the beginning step from this video. It keeps you moving and pumping your arms for the entire 20 minutes, and the cooldown can be seen at the bottom of the screen during the first part of the next step segment.

This video presents a full 100 minutes of Kathy Kaehler's workout programs and advice. Kaehler, trainer to the stars, presents several different workouts, accompanied by some of her celebrity trainees. Depending on your level and goals, you can mix and match. Beginning Step with Jamie Gertz is 20 minutes, consisting of a simple, repetitive step workout with plenty of instruction. The intermediate step section with Justin Bateman adds another 15 minutes and uses hand weights with choreography that works the muscles harder, but is almost as basic and repetitive as before. The advanced section with Julianne Phillips is another 15 minutes, with faster choreography, a weight vest as well as hand weights, and a higher step (you don't have to do all of these intensifiers at once). If you like varied choreography with challenging patterns, this video will bore you with its many, many repetitions of basic moves. But if your preference is for simple, repeated moves that burn fat and work the muscles effectively, Kaehler is a knowledgeable personal trainer.After the aerobic step workout, you get a series of body-sculpting segments using light weights for the upper body and exercises such as lunges for the lower body. Kaehler's celebrity trainees in these segments are Penelope Ann Miller (weights), Tawny Kitaen (abdominals), and Beverly D'Angelo (stretching).
