VHS Movie Reviews of Tango Lesson [VHS]Movie Review: Slow, average artistically, good dancing scenes Summary: 2 StarsAfter hearing so much rave, I was rather disappointed when I finally got the opportunity to see it. The story line is thin and moves painfully slow. Artistically, the film is okay, but nothing breathtaking. However if you are a dance enthusiast, it is worth seeing at least once. If you are thinking of buying the soundtrack, don't bother; without the dancing to go along with the music, you won't be able to hold your attention long enough to listen to it.
Movie Review: Warning: This film contains self-indulgence Summary: 1 StarsOther than dance, I never expect much artistry from a dance movie. This movie failed to deliver even that. I was particularly disappointed as a long-time devotee of Argentine tango who was hoping to see great dancing. Aside from a tap dance sequence by Pablo Ver?n, the dance was pedestrian at best. The plot was trivial if not disjointed; the editing seemed random; the acting was amateurish as was the cinematography. In short this self-indulgent film, which I understand was produced to fulfill the fantasies of the principles, has little to offer the general public.
Movie Review: It's taken me forever to actually watch it Summary: 4 StarsI'm a college student and I frequently channel surf! This movie often airs on Showtime at nonpeak hours when I'm usually in a flipping mood and I'd rarely give it more than five minutes before I decide to flip. I'm an art-ed. major who also loves music and dance and I kind of regret not watching this movie sooner! It's wonderful, even if it had a little too much "indy-film fest" dialogue in it. I understand that this was meant and now that I've found out that Sally Potter also directed Orlando I TOTALLY understand. I really like that movie also. "The Tango Lesson" is the sole influence of my want to take tango lessons after I've lost a lot of weight and I'm out of college! Thanks Sally! p.s. I love the song "I Am You"!
Movie Review: As a dancer, it was quite the inspiration! Summary: 4 StarsThe Tango Lesson has wonderful choreography that really left me on the edge of my seat. The scenes were also very well filmed as the camera angles complimented the dancing. The male lead (I forget his name) is an excellent dancer who learns a lesson or two from Sally Potter. I thoroughly enjoyed the film as I was inspired to take Tango Lessons. The locations used in the film were breathtaking at times. If you have ever been to Paris, you'll want to jump on a plane and go back!
Movie Review: Great !! Summary: 5 StarsOne of the best movies my wife and I viewed in the last five years. Renting the cassette we enjoyed so much that we plan to buy several copies to send our friends as a gift.
