VHS Movie Reviews of Strategic Air Command

Movie Review: Excellent, excellent movie
Summary: 4 Stars

The movie wonderfully captures the essence of SAC in the time period - not quite enough of what they needed for what they were trying to accomplish.

The Stewart/Allyson story is rather sappy and rather cliche. I found Allyson's acting quite forced at times.

Stewart, however, was absolutely brilliant. It's not widely known that this part wasn't much of a stretch for him - Jimmy Stewart flew B-17 bombers during World War II, commanded a squadron, and stayed in the Air Force into the 1970s, when he retired as a brigadier general.

Aircraft buffs will enjoy the footage of B-36s and B-47s.

Movie Review: strategic air command
Summary: 5 Stars

the film was very realistic, especially with sac's conversion of the b-36 to that of the b-47. the cold war was really going strong and the film shows the air force trying to meet the challenge. jimmy stewart's role was exceptional. he really didn,t understand the country policy change and how the air force had to meet it.

Movie Review: Ode to the Peacemaker
Summary: 4 Stars

Great flying photography and a reasonably accurate view of Strategic Air Command operations in the mid-1950s. Stewart plays his role absolutely straight, and pulls it off. The usual zombie perfomance by June Allyson.

A must-own if you are an airplane buff. Lots of beautiful shots to the B-36 Peacemaker in action. And don't miss the RATO (rocket-assisted take-off) sequence with the then-new B-47.

If only it were available in DVD....

Movie Review: Great homage to the B-36.
Summary: 4 Stars

While the story can be rather hokey at times, the footage of the Convair B-36--an aircraft as impressive today as it was 50 years ago--is what makes this a keeper. (The Boeing B-47 footage is great also.) Buy this movie and the book "Magnesium Overcast" and you too will be a fan of the giant which had "6 turning and 4 burning". Now we just need it on DVD.....

Movie Review: Nice for the 50s.
Summary: 3 Stars

This is a nice movie from the 1950s era. If you're an aircraft buff then this is the movie for you. James Steward does his usual good job acting. The rest of the movie has great flight sequences.
