VHS Movie Reviews of Stargate SG-1 (Children of the Gods 1 and 2) [VHS]Movie Review: Videophile Bonus Summary: 3 StarsAll 3 episodes on DVD are actually high resolution, anamorphic/ 16:9 widescreen enhanced - the preferred format for High Definition TV sets. This was a special treat, as the storage case does not even list this! (the "technical info" notes here at Amazon incorrectly lists it as 4:3 aspect ratio). The films themselves are a "must-have" for any Stargate or SG1 fan, & are a good way to introduce non-fans to the series. The Jack O'Neil & Daniel Jackson characters are portrayed especially well, & are far more satisfying than their counterparts in the original 1994 movie. Richard Dean Anderson in particular brings a welcome bit of humour to the role - O'Neil isn't the one dimensional semi-suicidal tough guy of the 94 movie.
Movie Review: Excellent a must buy ! Summary: 5 StarsIf you are at all a Stargate SG-1 fan you must buy this movie. I thought they did a very good job on encoding, however there are now special features that would have been a bonus...I just hope they make a dvd for each season with all the episodes.
Movie Review: The Wormhole Has Been Established! Summary: 4 StarsVery well done MGM Domestic Television. 16x9 Enhanced - Very Good. Picture Quality - Could Be Better. Program Content - Fantastic. On Screen Logos - None (Really Great). Commercial Breaks - None (Really Great). I have only seen this series on TV in the UK, of course minus the nude sequence. Also on UK TV, the episode titles are different! We only see the actors name e.g. Don S. Davis, but not his image. I hope MGM make the rest of the series available and with 3/4 episodes a DVD.
Movie Review: Great series Summary: 5 Stars"Stargate: SG-1" is a wonderful science fiction series and these four kick-off episodes give you a sense of what to expect (though there are better ones to come). There is a brief nude scene (which WAS in the original Showtime cablecast) after Shar-ra' was abucted from Abidos to Chulak to become a host. Whether it was gratituous or not is in the eye of the viewer. The series as a whole is full of wit, humor and just plain old smarts, even getting most of the science right. As an SF fan, "Stargate: SG-1" gets my vote for the best, first-run series on the air right now.
Movie Review: The Pent-Ultimate TV to Video Collector's Disc Summary: 5 StarsTV production companies and distributors take note: this is how a TV series should be released on video! Uncut and in its originally shot, 35mm aspect ratio. This is an excellent sci-fi series; probably about the best on TV. The pilot episode is actually better than the original theatrical movie that inspired it. The episodes on this disc set up the series nicely. If you're an SG-1 fan this disc is a must. All I can say after watching it is, "more, more, more!" I'm ready to preorder the next disc now.
