VHS Movie Reviews of Samson & Delilah (1950)

Movie Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a film that I won't soon forget. It really is a spectacle and a treat for the eyes. It's opulent and overstuffed, but nevertheless entertaining. It sports excellent costumes, special effects, and a story line. I can't believe what a great film was drawn out of the bible story.

Movie Review: One of the best Bible stories done in the movies.
Summary: 5 Stars

This movie was well done-the story is scriptural and the acting is excellent. Costumes are brillant. It is a movie that I never tire watching.

Movie Review: A" have to own" for anyone's collection of epics.
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a film I could watch over and over again. With the majesty of DeMille and the "made for" parts played by Mature and Lamarr, this is truly a masterpiece of costuming and storyline to keep you entralled throughout the entire film. If you are a collector of classics or epics this is one to have. One of the best parts I have seen Mature play this was the "Titanic" of its day. Need I say more????

Movie Review: Entertaining
Summary: 4 Stars

The movie was typical De mille, corny lines but definetly entertaining. Besides being that, it was difficult to take my eyes off the screen whenever Hedy lamarr was present ( which was most of the time ). I had never seen anyone more beautiful in technicolor to this day. She played Delilah in such a way, I couldn't imagine anyone else in that role. I keep watching this film, mostly for her prescence.

Movie Review: Victor Mature, the original "pec man"
Summary: 3 Stars

I saw this movie when I was about 6 or so. I could not decide between Mr. Mature, Howard Keel or Robert Taylor who was my favorite. All tall, dark and handsome, all pretty much bad or "hammy" actors. When Victor fought the lion with his bare hands and brought the columns down, I was enthralled. Hedy Lamarr as Delilah was the first female villain I remember in the movies except for the Wicket Witch in Oz.
