VHS Movie Reviews of Ruby in ParadiseMovie Review: Never saw Ashley before... Summary: 5 Starsuntil I accidentally saw her in "Someone Like You" and it was her acting style and not so much the movie that caused me to dig up this old classic as I studied more about her. This is an interesting film that I think acting students and small film makers should have on their shelves for reference. It's about an ordinary girl who works an ordinary job but manages to make life work for her on the Florida coast.
Movie Review: In case you like Ashley Judd, Summary: 4 Starsdo buy and watch. She sparkles and shines.
Movie Review: Slow moving, but definitely not slow!!! Summary: 5 StarsWhen I first watched this movie, I found it a little strange. I think i was new to independents at the time, and I was surprised at how you can have a movie so down to earth and about real people without the glamour, glitz, and perfection of hollywood movies! I don't know about others, but sometimes I want to see a movie where the characters aren't perfect, and things don't always work out the way we want them to. I thought Ashley Judd was amazing as a strong, sensitive woman, who didn't need a lot of lines to show what she was thinking or what was going on. I definitely recommend it to those who have the patience to watch movies without a lot of "action." But, there is still a lot there to watch. :)
Movie Review: Love Ruby in Paradise!!! Summary: 5 StarsI saw this movie on IFC channel. I loved it the moment I saw it!So I go to my video store and they have it, I bought of the video owner. Ever since I watch it and watch it. I love the way she portrayed Ruby. I wished that was me in her cute, cozy home. Specially when she says that it would mean more making it out there in the world but she is satisfied were she's at. That's great, I feel the same way. When I watch this movie it relaxes me, like a form of meditation. Victor Nunez did such a great job. The scenes are wonderfull, it was so quite and easy, I loved it!!!Still do!
Movie Review: You will never forget this film Summary: 5 StarsI first saw this movie as a rental. I watched it on a hot summer day in August, in Maryland, while I was alone, and I returned the film, only to rent it again a few weeks later. At first, I wasn't sure why I was drawn to the movie. Over time, I rented the film two or three times, and then I realized I had to purchase it. Now I can articulate why I am attracted to it.There are very few movies that speak so honestly and simply about the emotions or experiences that many of us face when moving from adolescence into adulthood. This is one of those films. Put simplistically, it's a coming-of-age film, but the film is by no means simplistic. Although about a young woman rather than a young male (more typical in coming-of-age films, unfortunately), the movie is much more than a genre piece. Through it, you can make observations about a number of themes. One I found particularly interesting was the essential loneliness of the United States. I saw this film at first after having spent seven years in Europe, and I had never before seen what I felt was an underlying loneliness in American life so articulately expressed. The loneliness I refer to has something to do with how Americans are separated by physical and emotional distances, their difficulty with emotions, their culture in general, always with an underlying sense of sadness that goes along with the more well-publicized optimism. In America, unlike in Europe, there's practically no social net set up for people to fall back on in hard times; there are more broken families, more poverty, more people living lives that make a mockery of the "greatest country on earth" dogma. Although the centerpiece of the film is a young woman, thoughtful men will find much to relate to, as well. The most unlikable character in the movie is a young man, and his difficulties with relating to others will be understood, if not felt, by most men. But above all, Ruby in Paradise is a great film because it is about beauty, endurance, and the human spirit. The film is entirely without gimmick. In my book, Ruby in Paradise rates as one of the best movies ever made. If you like this film, see my list of other films that you will never forget.
