VHS Movie Reviews of Promise (1978)Movie Review: A feel-good love story that somehow trancsends its sappiness Summary: 5 StarsOne of my all-time favorite tear-jerkers.Quinlan is luminous. The male lead's mother is wonderfully hateful. Although the major premise is weak, you won't care. This movie is not designed to provoke critical thinking - rather it is just designed to entertain
Movie Review: The Promise is a story of devotion Summary: 5 StarsA story of two young lovers who seal their eternal love for each other. They make a promise to one another and then seal their devotion by placing a neckless under a rock near a cliffside over looking the ocean in the state of Massachusetts. As the two are traveling by car to marry, their lives are suddenly separated by a serious car accident, a facelift re-constuction and a mother's dreadful lie, that keeps her son unknownly apart from the only love he ever knew, until one day a hand painted picture unvails the truth. Kathleen Quinlan and Steven Collins played their roles well in The Promise. They should get back together for a Promise II, 20 or so years later married, family portraying as possibly a successful businessman and photographer
Movie Review: Extremely excellent love story Summary: 5 StarsA love story with a different twist. My favorite love story ever. Even the theme song of this movie is a favorite of mine.
Movie Review: A wonderful love story from a wonderful novel Summary: 5 StarsLeonard Maltin is wrong on this one! This is a beautifully told story from a wonderful novel. I have seen this movie a dozen times and it always brings me to tears. It is well-cast and well-acted. I read the novel before the movie came out, believe me, it's a winner!!! Don't take the word of an unromantic poop, you will enjoy this flick.
Movie Review: Who says sappy is not good? Summary: 5 StarsI saw this movie hundreds of times on late-night tv in Brazil when I was in my early teens. It's always been my favorite sappy movie, and I can't wait to see it again, after about 15 years without seeing it! Stephen Collins and Kathleen Quinlan are both delightful!
