Movie Review: With rollerskates and a prayer....
Summary: 2 Stars
In "Prayer of the Rollerboys", Corey Haim stars as a teenaged boy whose younger brother is addicted to drugs, thanks to roller-skating white supremacists. This is Roller Derby, but it's about fighting for the future! Haim constantly gives his brother the "just say no to drugs" lecture (it was the '80s). In the meantime, he finds out the evil rollerboys (who wear white suits&are accompanied by cheesy synth music) are collaborating with some Japanese dudes,and are planning on the "Day of the Rope." The "Day of the Rope" isn't a public hanging. They've gotten "inferior men" addicted to their drugs, rendering them impotent. It's a flaccid plot twist. Then again, the Rollerboys know nothing of Viagra and Cialis. It's bizarre, with them rendering their male foes impotent instead of just sterile.
Meanwhile, Haim romances the beautiful Patricia Arquette for some reason. They have some cringeworthy love scenes. Strengthened by his love, Haim battles the villains. There are some idiotic chase scenes. "Prayer of the Rollerboys" IS MST3K-worthy. It's reminiscent of "City Limits",the post-apocalyptic movie starring a young Kim Cattrall. "Prayer" is so cheesy,it doesn't have a prayer.
