Movie Review: Ugh
Summary: 3 Stars

Pink Floyd the Wall is my favorite album of the groups, and I like the whole basis for which the story is organized. The movie's visuals are nice, and the animated sequences are disturbingly entertaining with a very old style rock illustration.

The only thing I keep revisiting that bothers me so much about the movie is the main character, Pink Floyd, and the story that centers around his life. Here's this guy who grew up with an over protective mom, a snide teacher, and a dead father. He's grown up in the times where Jews were slaughtered and where teachers sought to reform the new generation of the world.

It's a wonderful premise and could've been made into something grand and enthralling if more reality would've been induced. I don't understand how the audience is supposed to feel for a man who took his teacher's criticisms to heart of his poetry and a mother who only sought to love and protect him and let it ruin his life. I don't mean to say I don't feel compassion for the experiences he went through as a child.

But why take it to such extremes as to imagine oneself as a neo-Nazi, letting a marriage fall to shambles as a result of neglect and miscommunication, and imagining women being raped? It's the biggest factor that annoys me beyond reason, as it tries to portray him in the sense of being a broken man who only needed the comfort of others when he had that very thing at his feet for all this time. He's not a sympathetic character, at all, and I find it deplorable to allow a few measly criticisms to shamble his mind and soul.

This movie would've been more tolerable if the main character wouldn't have been such a hard person to relate to.

Movie Review: No stereo option?!!!!!
Summary: 2 Stars

I loved this movie in the theaters and on my VHS copy...that's got to be said up front.

Now I sold my VHS copy and bought this thing.....,the picture is great,BUT I don't have any surround sound system capability. So let me warn any buyers that DON'T have a 5.1 system that THIS DVD HAS NO STEREO MIX option.

This means that when I play it most of the film has almost no audible soundtrack,...until the music comes in loud. Then it almost blows the speakers on my TV set. This must be because most of the quiet sounds are set to play from the rear speakers (that I DON'T have),and the LOUD sounds just flare up past the level of endurance.

I am sick over the fact that I sold my perfectly good VHS copy of this, especially since this version of the film is almost unbearable to listen to and watch on a stereo set. I think that the manufacturers of this disc are very unsympathetic to us non-5.1 endowed fans of this clasic rock movie. There should be a sound setting for us "stereo" TV owners.

Just pass this by if you don't have surround sound.
