VHS Movie Reviews of Picture of Dorian Gray (1945)Movie Review: A Must Have For the Movie Collector Summary: 5 StarsThis is a wonderful movie and a must have for any classic movie collector. Lord Wotton is responsible for leading Dorian down the path of damnation and destruction. Dorian eagerly buy into Lord Wotton's cynical philosophies. I like the introduction of color when viewing the portrait. Although Dorian looks okay in black & white, the color portrait allows one to understand how the characters in the movie could be so enamoured of him.
The Picture of Dorian Gray
Movie Review: WONDERFUL !! Summary: 5 StarsI was waiting for this DVD since several months ago. It is a masterpiece. The production is so good. I recommend it so much for someone who is interested in good art movies and of course, in Mr. Oscar Wilde's novels. We see our lovely Angela Lansbury so young in a particular role. Don't miss it !
Movie Review: pass on this Summary: 2 StarsI want to give this movie only one star but the supporting cast does an excellent job to help Hurd Hatfield through this farce. A young a attractive Donna Reed is a part of the great supporting cast.
Yes, its a classic film, but not a very good one. Save your money.

Movie Review: Oscar Wilde Classic on Film Summary: 5 Stars"The Picture of Dorian Gray" was produced at M-G-M during Hollywood's Golden Age and boasts a first-class cast and impressive production values. As years bring changes to all around him, Dorian Gray (Hurd Hatfield) remains young and handsome. Instead, a portrait of him changes with the years, revealing the horrific effects of Gray's immoral life of debauchery and evil. Based on Oscar Wilde's novel, the 1945 film co-stars veteran scene-stealer George Sanders, Donna Reed, Angela Lansbury, and Peter Lawford. More a psychological horror film than the graphic Frankenstein, Dracula, and Werewolf films churned out by Universal around the same time, this feature is a bit talky but does manage to draw the viewer in, and Hatfield's performance is understated creepiness. Extras include commentary by Angela Lansbury, an Oscar-winning short, and an Oscar-winning cartoon.
