VHS Movie Reviews of Phantom Tollbooth

Movie Review: An Entertaining and Wise Film
Summary: 5 Stars

"The Phantom Tollbooth" is the magnum opus of all involved--that's saying a lot--considering it is co-directed by animator Chuck Jones and stars the very talented Butch Patrick (who was featured in "Pressure Point" and "A Child is Waiting"; as well as a regular on "The Munsters").

"Tollbooth" is not only a film for the whole family, but is actually GOOD for the entire family. Some features will teach children that academics are important, this piece of entertainment goes beyond that and teaches that being a human being is important.

Despite what some critics have written--the songs are awesome and the storyline is very entertaining!

Movie Review: The greatest Movie ever
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a wonderful movie I am only 14 but this is probably my all time favorite movie and I like movies like american pie and Van wylder so its not like im only exposed to this genre. The movie is great while getting some education in on the side. It's also a good buy because you will want to watch it over and over again.

Movie Review: Read The Book Instead
Summary: 2 Stars

This adaptation of my fave childhood read didn't interest me much. Although the Chuck Jones-style animation was familiar from my childhood days of watchin' The Bugs And Road Runner ShowT, it didn't have that feature-film quality to it. Throw in several musical numbers that even the worst DisneyT toon-flick wouldn't've used on a dare, and you've got a fairly lame re-telling of a classic kiddie tome. At best, I'd recommend this for the pre-reading-level toddler-- if he/she's on RitalinT for ADD, that is. Otherwise, stick with the book and don't look back!

`Late!

Movie Review: Chuck had lost his fastball by then
Summary: 2 Stars

I agree with some others here: The book is so good that this cheapo adaptation can't compare. And yes, the songs are dreadful. I have to dock it an extra star (down from 3) because the source material should have yielded a better film. But I really do think Chuck Jones was just mailing it in by then.

Movie Review: READ THE BOOK
Summary: 2 Stars

I first read this book in sixth grade. When I saw the movie title in the TV guide I was thrilled. My favorite book was on video now and I would see it. When I saw it it was devistating. It missed some of the most explanatory scenes of why they went to Digitopolis. I understand that this movie would be wonderful if you haven't read the book but if you read the book it is more colorful, cheerful and funny. If you ask me this movie isn't worth seeing (if you've read the book).

Summary:Don't see the movie if you've read the book.
