Movie Review: Don't waste your time
Summary: 1 Stars

I decided to watch this DVD becasue all those good reviews about it. However, I sensed that this movie wasn't good just shortly after the 15 minutes of watching it. I persuaed myself to hang on but after an hour of watching, I couldn't bear it anymore. I didn't even bother to finish. Wish I could get that one hour back.

I am Ok with the ugly actors and actresses but their poor acting plus their unpleasant appearances really put me off. The lead actress has this tension in her eyes all the time. Others are over acting as well. Since I didn't read the novel, one part of the movie just didn't make sense to me until I read other negative reviews here after watching this movie. So it shows other reviewers experience the same thing (I try not to reveal any storyline in my reviews so you can experience yourself and make a fair judgement). Don't understand why people give 5 or 4 stars to this movie.

One lesson I learn from this movie and also another one (the cast of that one actually are all beautiful faces without conveniencing story or acting) - read the negative reviews on Amazon first before ordering any DVDs. Before, I didn't know how to check reviews and thought I had to go through all the reviews in order to get a fair idea about a movie. But, that will take so much time to check each single review. Now I know you just need to click on the "1 star" section of the score bars. Then, "2 star" and so on. That's how you check the negative reviews immediately to see why people think a particular movie doesn't worth your time.

Movie Review: A Different Ending Written by Austen
Summary: 5 Stars

I gave this five stars because the writers used a chapter discarded and rewritten by Austen. Well, Austen's original chapter worked rather well on screen. If you want a copy of this chapter, go to The Gutenberg Project and download the biography of Jane Austen by one of her nephews. The makers of this movie were quite respectful to Austen. There are some points which I think could have been done better. Mr. Elliot's story differed quite a bit from the original. I didn't see the need and indeed, this rewrite detracted from the film. Amanda Root as Anne Elliot is perfection itself. All things considered, this is a solid production but the gold standard has yet to be made.

Movie Review: Perfect .... The best rendition of an Austen novel to the screen
Summary: 5 Stars

Everything about this BBC production is faultless - the casting, the screenplay, the filming, the locations. I've watched this about a dozen times and love it more each time. If ever a film deserved to be released on Bu-ray, this is it.

Movie Review: Persuasion review
Summary: 5 Stars

Absolutely love this movie! It's still the best version of Persuasion made (including over the most recent 2008 version). The novel is my favorite of all of Jane Austen's works. The acting is superb and the movie follows closely to that of the book. One can appreciate the "realness" of living through this time period, as the movie well-portrayed, and be moved by the love-story! It's not the typical "holly-wood" filming, but that makes it more believable and the actors respond naturally, not rehearsed, making the story feel as though it is captured in real time. (The music is also well-done - classical piano.)

Movie Review: Persuasion - the best film version yet!
Summary: 5 Stars

This film is faithful to Jane Austen's book, & reproduces the sad, autumn feel of the work. Amanda Root IS Anne Eliot, & is allowed to develop the part in a moving way. Captain Wentworth, Ciaran Hinds is a handsome foil, Corin Redgrave a perfectly aweful, stupid Sir Walter Eliot. The casting is excellent, my only quibble being Mr Eliot, the cad of the piece, being too handsome & mild. Admiral Croft & Mrs Croft are believably a happy couple, & Elizabeth Eliot is superbly catty & selfish. The friction between Charles Musgrove & his wife, Mary is nicely spelt out. For Jane Austen fans, this is a must! You will not have to endure the plot being subverted or chopped about, & my favourite scene, where Captain Wentworth overhears Anne Eliot talking with Captain Harwill, is there in full. Highly recommended.
