VHS Movie Reviews of ParrishMovie Review: SUPERB FILM WAY AHEAD OF ITS TIME..5 STARS Summary: 5 StarsONE OF THE LAST GREATEST FILMS OF THE LATE 50"S! A MUST FOR THE ROMANTIC COLLECTOR.
Movie Review: Musical score superior to movie Summary: 4 StarsI saw the movie when it was first released and I must say I enjoyed it at a younger age than I am now; however, what I do recall was the musical score. Director Delmer managed to make several similar films with outstanding musical scores. You can't find the music on records or CDs. Get a copy of this movie, sit back and enjoy the music by the great movie composer: Young
Movie Review: A great story from Hollywood's first "brat pack" Summary: 4 StarsA lot of people forget that there was a stable of youthful actors during the late '50s/ early '60s, which co-stars Troy Donahue and Connie Stevens were were part of here. This film deals with the Conneticut tobacco planting industry, a woman (Colbert) who is hired as governess for one of the planters' daughter, her iconoclastic son (Donahue), his girlfriend (Stevens) the region's largest landholder who wants it all (Karl Malden) and his personable sweet-natured dauhter (Sharon Hugueny). There are family struggles in this film which are a lot like later TV series like "Dallas" and "Dynasty". Another point of interest is the work songs sung by the migrant Jamaican workforce; "There's a wheel spinnin' round and round/ puttin' tobacco in the ground", and other such chants. This is no Oscar winner, but it's a lot better than just about any other generation-cult film.
Movie Review: really nice movie in its time, good cast Summary: 5 StarsI was about 10 or eleven years old when I first saw this movie, which was quite awhile ago. I have seen this movie at least 50-60 times since, and also have the video and hard cover book I have been a great fan of Connie Stevens since that movie. I remember wanting her and Troy Donahue to become an item off screen, which we know never happened, but it was nice to dream. This movie is quite harmless by todays standards. It would be nice if they still made movies like this and there was an audience to enjoy them.
Movie Review: SAPPY, SORT OF STUPID, BUT THOROUGHLY ENJOYABLE Summary: 5 StarsTroy Donahue's voice is monotone through this whole film, but, it is a surprisingly good story, if you can get past him and the cheesy clothes and dialogue. The film is soapy and, at times, downright stupid, but for whatever reason, I enjoy it more each time I see it! Diane McBain is great as the super spoiled Allison. Sharon Hugueny made her film debut here as the sweet Paige Raike. Also recommended, "A Summer Place" and "Rome Adventure".
