VHS Movie Reviews of Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven Of Bliss

Movie Review: Poignant comedy that entertains both adults and kids.
Summary: 5 Stars

Like A Christmas Story, this movie holds the attention of both kids and adults. Boomer parents re-experience their childhood summer vacations. But the humor is ageless, and present day kids also are riveted. There are classic scenes regarding a kid getting his first summer job (with the father, James Sikking, wryly making cracks about the glories of physical labor). As in the movie, my brothers and I traveled in the family car to vacations on Lake Michigan. Jean Shepard, the author, is unsurpassed in capturing mid-century middle-American family life. Our Beta tape version is getting threadbare; I'd buy a new VHS or DVD in a second, given the opportunity.

Movie Review: A funny, warm family movie that's actually good!!!
Summary: 4 Stars

My kids and I bumped into this movie on PBS one night and saw only the last few minutes. We were hooked and I've tried to find it since. It was warm and funny and true to life in an exaggerated way. The movie was off-center enough to keep us all interested and laughing. We are all longing for the return of Fuzzhead!!!

Movie Review: THIS IS THE FUNNIEST FAMILY MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I FIRST SAW THIS MOVIE WHEN IT CAME OUT ON TV ON A PBS STATION HERE IN MI. I AM 26, I WAS A TEEN THEN, MY SISTER AND I STILL QUOTE LINES FROM THIS MOVIE. IF YOU LIKE A CHRISTMAS STORY, YOU'LL LOVE THIS ONE!!!!!!

Movie Review: A little known but very funny movie!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is a great family movie. Narrated by Jean Sheppard (A Christmas Story) you will enjoy his breathless and exaggerated memories of his family vacations every year to Michigan. With a dog named Fuzzhead how can you go wrong! My family watched this tape until it wore out and my chidren knew EVERY LINE in the movie. I would buy this tape if it were available somewhere and I have looked for years to find it!

Movie Review: Hilarious and nostalgic, Great for the family.
Summary: 5 Stars

Ollie Hopnoodle's is a very funny look at family life in the early 60's--but is so relevant to today. The story is narrated by Jean Shephard ( same author of "The Christmas Story" and has the same characters as "The Christmas Story" i.e. Mom, Dad, Ralph and whiny little brother Randy.) Ralph at 14 gets his first job--and the depiction of his excitement and fall into the realities of WORK is priceless and universal. The title is the name of the vacation spot they trek to every year for Dad's vacation. The nostalgic look at travel minus interstate highways is entertaining beyond words--the little stops to look at Kitch for sale, car troubles, a bee in the car are exaggerated pictures of a past reality that makes this movie so much fun to watch!
