VHS Movie Reviews of Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven Of BlissMovie Review: Another Bee Trauma... Summary: 3 StarsI think I first saw this movie on the Disney channel years ago. The one thing that's always stuck with me is the image of the windmill perched on top of the Parker's car, shearing trees and slamming into signs...Watching it now, I can't help but think what a little more production money and script tightening would have done for this picture. The dog going missing is a waste of time. The summer job is okay, but the best part is when they're on the road. Now, here's why I'll always love it. The bee in the car! Dorothy Lyman's hysterical reaction is worth the fifty dollar purchase price you'll probably have to pay to get your hands on this one. And for fun, watch when the Parkers are chasing the Rolls Royce...especially after the car turns around. What's that, a Nova? And a Chevette? I thought this was a 40s-50s movie!
Movie Review: A family classic Summary: 5 StarsFuzzhead! I love this movie and have since I was a kid (not that many years ago). My whole family loves this movie, and now that I'm a big kid, my fiance and I love it. Great movie, and one you should definetly watch.
Movie Review: Ollie Hopnoodle and the Haven of Bliss Summary: 2 StarsI believe that this was the third installment in the Ralphie trilogy, and unfortunately the least well done. As a joint venture between Disney and Boston's Public TV station, WGBH, it's characters didn't seem fully developed and the acting seemed shallow in comparison to "A Christmas Story." It came across as a low-budget effort.I also had a little trouble with the title, which most of this 100 minute movie didn't actually deal with. Jean Shepard's cameo role as Ralphie's first boss was . . . different, with his character appearing visually stunning and a cross between an Hasidic diamond merchant and Gimli the Dwarf in "Lord of the Rings." No human being has ever had this amount of facial hair. By today's standards this certainly wasn't a bad movie, but it didn't have the attention to detail the first two did and the various story lines had the potential to be taken so much further.
Movie Review: Ollie Hopnoodle: A Christmas Story in the Summer! Summary: 5 StarsHey, movie viewers! If you liked the great 1983 movie, A Christmas Story, which was narrated by, and based on a novel by Jean Shepherd, you'll really like this hilarious 1988 comedy! It's about a teen named Ralph Parker and his family who live in Indiana in the late 40's or early 50's, who go on a vacation every year to a lake in Michigan, and stay at a resort by the lake called Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss, which consists of 6 log cabins. Unfortunately, the family dog, Fuzzhead, has disappeared, and the mother refuses to leave until Fuzzhead is found. After a long 2 weeks, they finally find her, so now it's Vacation Time! They travel by car to Michigan with lots of laughs along the way! Like I mentioned earlier, this movie is narrated by Jean Shepherd, who does the voice for Old Ralph, and makes a brief appearance as Mr. Scott, Ralph's boss. This movie is very similar to Christmas Story, even the characters names are the same! The only real difference is that this takes place in the summer! This movie was a TV movie, made for The Disney Channel. Filmed in the DFW area of Texas, and released in August 1988, this movie is GREAT for all ages. So if you liked A Christmas Story, get this movie! Im tellin' ya, it's KOOL!!
Movie Review: Ollie Hopnoodle: Sequel to a Great Christmas Classic Summary: 4 StarsHi, movie fans! This 1988 hilarious TV movie about a summer vacation to Michigan is based on the 1983 movie A Christmas Story, another hilarious movie. This is a movie narrated by Jean Shepherd, who also narrated Christmas Story and wrote novels, which his movies werer based on. Ralph Parker(Jerry O' Connell) and his family including his father(James B. Sikking) go on a vacation to a place with cabins by a lake called Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss. I think Sikking does just as good of a job of playing the father in Christmas Story(Darren McGavin). They both do great. This is a great movie. Get it! It's REALLY funny!
