VHS Movie Reviews of Music From Another Room [VHS]Movie Review: A nice, cheesy film Summary: 3 StarsThis film is a romance where the Meet Cute (to borrow a term from Roger Ebert) occurs when boy meets girl the moment she's born. He is Danny (Jude Law) and she is Anna (Gretchen Mol)...and as a small child he delivers her when her mother goes into labor. Soon after Danny moves to England with his American father. When he comes back twenty (or so) years later, he meets Anna by coincidence and realizes that he loves her and is destined to be with her. Awww...anyway, the story follows their romance as well as the relationship between Nina (Jennifer Tilly), Anna's blind sister, and Jesus, a dishwasher. A few hilarious dinner scenes are thrown in with the rest of the (extremely disfunctional) family--rounded out by Brenda Blethyn as the dizzy matriarch.Despite an interesting cast, this movie is quite cheesy. However, after I write this review I am heading out to the local Blockbuster to rent it again. Why? To see Jude Law's excellent performance, of course. He takes an unforgiving role as a lovesick puppy (check out the scenes where he gets knocked out by a car door, and--my personal favorite--dresses like a pig while feminist actresses beat him with sticks) and makes it sparkle. A lesser actor would have appeared nerdy at best, pathetic at worst. Jude is mischeviously charming and we root for him to get the girl, even though Gretchen Mol's portrayal of Anna makes her irritatingly cranky for most of the film. Check this movie out, though, if you like sentimental films about romance...or Jude Law in a button-down shirt.
Movie Review: Music from another room Summary: 5 StarsThis movie is great, I first saw it on cable and do not remember this movie being released at the box office. I bought it and recommend this to the romantic at heart. I can see this over and over. This is a five star movie that has been widely over looked.
Movie Review: Cute, Sweet, and Perfectly Romantic! Summary: 5 StarsOH My Gosh I loved this movie! I must admit I first saw it for Jude Law because he's just that hot but after I saw it I loved it for the wonderly fun and addorable romance that it is! The acting was great, the story was great, the comedy was...well funny, and (I can't help but mention it) Jude Law looked HOT. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone, better than While you were sleeping and yes even You've got mail! OH, the cuteness, everyone should see it again and again!
Movie Review: A great movie! Summary: 5 StarsI'll have to agree with another reviewer who said this movie is more about the OTHER members of the family than about Gretchen Mol and Jude Law's relationship, but it's still a great movie. The relationship between Nina, the blind sister, and Jesus, the latino dishwasher, could have made a great movie on it's own. Interspersed in this one, it's still one of the highlights of the film. Some of the situations in this film are great, and there are moments that will really draw you in - especially when Jude Law and Gretchen finally start considering each other. The train station scene at the end should earn a place in movie history for romantic endings. This is one movie you'll find love, laughter, and even tears of sadness in...but you'll love every minute of it.
Movie Review: Absolutely Magical Summary: 4 StarsI was swept away by the sheer beauty of this love story. Jude Law was brilliant in his portrayal of an artist seeking out his one true love. Gretchen Mol was captivating as her family's caretaker. Their words and movements were beautiful as you watched the entire family discover what true love can be.
