VHS Movie Reviews of Mostly Martha (Sub)

Movie Review: Beautiful and perfectly understated
Summary: 5 Stars

This is an excellent example of a perfectly understated movie. The story is beautiful, and it is written, acted and shot with a subtlety that elevates it head and shoulders above louder, more obvious romances. It's depth and substance meant my husband could enjoy it, too - an added bonus for a romance.

Mostly Martha should be seen by anyone who enjoys a slowly and skillfully developed story with real characters and real feeling.

Movie Review: An excellent film!! Much better than the remake!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of those hidden gems that very few people know about. However, if you find this treasure, you will agree that it's a film that should be passed on from viewer to viewer.

Movie Review: Cook up a storm !
Summary: 5 Stars

I noticed that practically all the reviews carried a 5 star rating hence I feel confident to give it the same rating before I even see it. The reason?, well as going to the cinema at the normal time is out of the question with my working patterns I have to see a 10-12pm showing which I did last night and had the whole cinema to myself for a showing of "No Reservations" starring Catherine Zeta Jones and Aaron whatshisname?,It took a leap of faith to entice me to go in the first place but I was pleasantly surprised with everything about it, The plot the acting and the music were simply scrumptious. As a former night porter in a hotel I had to smile at everyone "taking five" in the walk-in freezer which I myself used to do along with everyone else on a busy hot night.
Before there are howls of indignation for my pre- review I have ordered the DVD Mostly Martha and will edit my review later, when I have viewed it and I have to say my mouth is watering!!! "Bon Appitite"

Movie Review: Better than remake!
Summary: 5 Stars

Much better than the English version remake that came out this year. I love this movie!

Movie Review: Such a nice movie! (boycott the remake...)
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the very very few true "food movie" masterpieces around, in the same category as Eat Drink Man Woman (which may be my all time favorite) and Babette's Feast. Even as a romantic comedy, this gem is top notch. Wonderfully acted, witty, original, at times funny and at times sad and often... yummy! The two main characters are perfect in their role, and you truly end up caring for them.

This movie is so good that... Hollywood, who is more and more running short of ideas, has decided to copy... and paste it. The remake now in theaters, for all of us who have seen this movie, will surely be a sad disappointment. Just watch the trailer, and see if Zeta-Jones can play this role, or if Eckart can be as good as Castellitto in this role. I do like both Zeta-Jones and Eckart, but it's just sad sad sad that nowadays Hollywood is reduced to recycle beautiful movies putting the usual good looking actors in places that do not belong to them. Let Zeta-Jones act in Zorro, and let folks who want to see Mostly Martha see Mostly Martha and not its lame remake.

My favorite quote from this movie, when Martha point out that there is something wrong with the sugar her shrink has used for a dessert: "can you really tell which sugar I have used???" and Martha replies: "No, but I can tell which one you did NOT use". Ah, wonderful!
