For some reason, we have always taught animals to serve us by forcing and breaking their spirit; pressing them until they give. There's a way to show the horse what you want, and have him learn it for good. Monty Roberts understands this concepts, whether it's people or animal. The video shows how it works. The arguments against his methods will always come from the ignorant. They much prefer compliance through force. Horses have long backs and a willingness. That means they are ideal for work with people, but that use isn't something we are owed, it's a gift. Any one who truely cares about animals and our relationships with them can appreciate this book.True, the beginning drags on to find you wondering "What has this got to do with 'horse whiperers'"?, but only from the authors eyes and points of view can we fully understand how animals are being treated, and how un neccesary it is. As Mr. Roberts methods extend from horses, we realise this read is not just some horsey-fad. Through his new training methods, his learnings are here to stay. This book would be much more believable if it had been written by someone else--or if Mr. Roberts had not tried so deperately to convince readers that he is truly a "horse whisperer"--or, better yet as he would have us to believe--one who listens to horses. This book drags you in from the beginning. Anyone who enjoys animals will have a deep appreciation for Monty's method of "breaking" horses. Instead of "breaking" the horse he has "join up" with the horse. It's a much more humane approach, not to mention much faster. In my opinion a must read! END
