VHS Movie Reviews of Mickey's House of Mouse - Villains [VHS]Movie Review: Mixed bag here Summary: 3 StarsWhen I saw the commercial advertising it I thought "wow, all Disney villains gathered in one movie to battle the good guys." I mean you can see Jafar socializing with Ursula and Hook. This is the problem though: There's not enough of it. Basically, in the movie, Mickey runs like a nightclub where the theme is Halloween and he's showing animated shorts to good guy guests like Simba and Nala from Lion King and the women like Snow White, Belle to villains like the Queen of Hearts from Alice in Wonderland and Hades from Hercules. This goes on for about 45 minutes until Jafar decides to steal Mickey's house for his own and kicks Mickey, Minnie, Goofy and Donald out. Then Mickey brings a last valiant effort to take back his house. Premise is cool, right? But it's those animated shorts. All it is is animated shorts THEN this "battle" takes place, which is quite tame compared to the villain's respective movies and only lasts maybe 5 minutes. So in catching interest of this, don't get all hyped up thinking that it's an all-out war. But it'll keep yourself and your kids if you have any entertained for an hour.
Movie Review: tepid rehash of old materials....... Summary: 2 StarsIf you're looking for new materials, do not bother with this release. It is a loose grouping of old cartoons. While the cartoons are in themselves excellent, no new value has been added by the new animated linkages. Imagine if you would a nightclub operated by Mickey. On halloween, all of the classic villains arrive to watch cartoons. Then Mickey has a bit of a struggle and the show's ended.I am afraid that this release is all too typical of the recent Disney animated sequels. The characters are great, the animation good, but the plots are rotten. Disney is in danger of damaging its reputation. Please, Disney. Come up with some good plots!!
Movie Review: HUGE DISASPPOINTMENT Summary: 2 StarsAs a fan of the great Disney villains, I eagerly looked toward this release, thinking I could see my favorites in one film. Well, WRONG! This is nothing but a series of Mickey/Donald/Goofy shorts strung together with a Halloween motif. You see the Disney villains on the front and back of the DVD cover, inside on the insert, but hardly in the movie! I don't know why the Disney folks allowed this sham to take place. If they wanted to release these Mickey, et al shorts, do it without the idea of the Disney villains. There is one scene where the villains sing a Broadway-like number, but it is too brief to be enjoyable. Maleficent, Cinderella's stepmother, etc are all relegated to just scenes where they sit in a cocktail-like sitting watching these mini-cartoons of Mickey and his friends. Knowing the likes of Maleficent, etc, they wouldn't stand for such goings-on! This is like watching Disney Animation 101 with the guise of Advanced Disney Masterpiece. AVOID!
Movie Review: A Homage to the Disney Cartoons of Old Summary: 4 StarsIf like me, you can remember back to a time when Halloween meant not just candy and costumes, but spooky, cartoony specials on the Disney Channel, you'll be just as delighted with Disney's House of Villains as I was. Having just made the move to college, I was disappointed at the prospect of spending my Halloween night alone, with no trick-or-treating, and even worse, none of those Disney Channel specials I was always so crazy about. I had heard about the iminent release of Disney's House of Villains, but did not know just what the DVD would be like. Once I learned that one of my favorite classic cartoons, "Trick or Treat", was going to be presented on this DVD, I rushed out to purchase it. I was not disappointed. House of Villains mixes the old classics with a few new cartoons that just may become classics in the years to come. And for lovers of the classics, you can't beat the enhanced color and sound of "Lonesome Ghosts" on this DVD. This is the perfect treat (and trick) for any family collection.
Movie Review: Mickey's House of Villians Summary: 1 StarsVillain's? Beware! It's a good thing for the adult crowd that Disney has guaranteed your satisfaction or your money back. I'm very disappointed in the program. I expected to see more villainous action instead of the sleepy new and old restored footage put together in this remarkably boring DVD and Video.
