VHS Movie Reviews of Maybe... Maybe NotMovie Review: a comic gem Summary: 5 Starstake one great-looking and utterly-clueless straight guy and toss him into a wildly funny and equally-clueless group of gay men and what you get is one of the best comedies of the 90s. this ranks with "shall we dance," the japanese charmer, as one of the very few pure delights of recent vintage.
Movie Review: A german comedy Summary: 5 StarsMy sister in law brought the movie from Germany. A Germany comedy that is well written that covers every aspect of relationships. I have the german version. When the price comes down my canadian friends can enjoy a great movie. Europe is underrated at the movie business. Life is beautiful and Maybe Maybe not are in the same class.
Movie Review: Great translation from the wonderful Ralf König comics: Summary: 5 StarsGreat performances, particularly by Joachim Król, translating this bittersweet comedy to screen. It's sexy and campy but the characters draw you in. They may initially appear to embody stereo-types, but the portrayals do develop warmth and depth as the characters grow. The best German film I've seen -- until "Sonnenallee" came out recently. The soundtrack is also very amusing.
Movie Review: Maybe?...Yea! Summary: 3 StarsThis is a rather unusual but likeable soundtrack with the first half sounding very 1930's Berlin. You can almost see drag queens smoking as the singer croons the german version of "Just a Gigolo". Very reminiscent of "Victor/Victoria, only in German! The second half is very typical of a soundtrack with background sort of songs except for track 18 which is quite danceable if short. ...campy and a nice addition especially if you liked the movie.
Movie Review: What a hilarious, refrehing comedy! Summary: 5 StarsI was required to see this film for my college German class, and was pleasantly surprised to find a movie more funny and engaging than anything that I've seen in English in the past few years. This movie takes and straightforward look at the comical side of homosexuality, and the havoc it wreaks on a straight man in an awkward situation.
