VHS Movie Reviews of Little Big Man

Movie Review: All things considered it is among the best
Summary: 5 Stars

Each supporting character is strong and memorable as is the principal character Jack himself. His many phases of individual interaction brings on increasing interest as he struggles all through the West. This film brings out Dustin Hoffman's earliest performance and sets the scene for all those that follow. Pathos, pride, pity, pettiness as well as pretty darn good are his many moods of Jack. You cannot go wrong with Native American philosophy coupled with White American sensuality. M-m-m-m good.

Movie Review: HOW THE WEST WAS
Summary: 5 Stars

Little Big Man is more of a statement than the biography its intended to be. Its the story of the life of Jack Crabb. The lone white Survivor of the battle of little big horn (or massacre). The movie is told from a very pro Native american view. Jack has seen it all from both worlds. Raised as an indian and then set upon his white upbringing Jack sees the best and worst of both. His is a tragic tale of a man of 2 peoples but no real home. His life is both an adventure and a tradgedy superbly played by Dustin Hoffman. Jack sees the joy of the simplicity of the Indian culture but can not understand why the Indian can not see beyond its own confines. He marvels at the industry and vast ideas of the white culture but can not understand its inhumanity towards its fellow man. The main Villian is seen as General Custer played nicely by Richard Mulligan. He portrays Custer as a narrcisitic, hi ego and arrogant man who cares only for himself.Custer is shown as one who has no soul as the attacks he orders on defensless indian emcampments is both brutal and inhuman. In the beginning of the film Jack has respect for Custer who was such a war hero. But through the movie he sees the darker side of Custer the inhuman soldier with dreams of being god like. The scene that throws jack over and into dispair is the scene where his indian village is savagely attacked by custers troops. No mercy is shown not even to the women and children. Jack watches helplessly as his wife who just has given birth to there child is gunned down mercilessly and upon falling there new baby is dropped into the river and drowns. Jack joins custer as a scout. At first to kill him but later to just be around for his certain demise. THe battle of little big horn is shown as the massacre it was. The arrogant Custer shouting out orders to men who are dead. Jack survives to live a lonely life and at the age Of 120 recalls it to a reporter. This movie is well done and thought provoking. Its a comedy, drama and tradgedy. To quoate Jack at the beginning of the film " I KNOWED THE INDIAN FOR WHAT THEY WAS AND I ALSO GENERAL GEORGE ARMSTRONG CUSTER FOR WHAT HE WAS" This movie will make you laugh and make you shake your head. its a unique look at the old west

Movie Review: Great Entertainment
Summary: 4 Stars

I really enjoyed the movie. Dustin Hoffman played an excellent part and did very well. Although a great comedy. It is also a great reminder of what the Native American's went through. Shall we never forget these great people. I thorougly enjoyed this movie.

Movie Review: Little Big Man
Summary: 1 Stars

The CD is broken and doesn't work. We are unable to watch the movie.

Movie Review: Should be listed in fiction & comedy
Summary: 2 Stars

Not what I was expecting. A little too long also. It had funny parts and sad parts, but mostly was a little "low budget" and almost put me to sleep. It was in Dustin Hoffman's early years, so I give him a break there.
