VHS Movie Reviews of Laurie Berkner's Video Songbook [VHS]

Movie Review: Not what I expected, but cute anyway.
Summary: 4 Stars

It is a cute video and my daughter enjoys watching and dancing along with it. There's lots of cameos of the children in the audience (which my daughter loves). Also there's a good variety of songs, (many of which we were familiar with from Noggin).

Pros-
Lots of songs that encourage dancing and interaction with your child
Lots of screen time of the children in the audience
Simple songs and lyrics that my daughter can sing along with.
My daughter likes the simple animation and older bluescreen technology.
The audio on our tape is crisp and clear, no buzzing, humming, or any other noises aside from the concert.

Cons-
This is not what they show on Noggin, this is a taping of a concert from 4 or 5 years ago, and it is very evident.
The funky book that showcases the video cuts off about 30% of the useable screen. I would have preferred that the whole video be shot in full screen without the annoying black spaces around the edges.
I'm not too thrilled with the clothes Laurie and Susie are wearing, I'd have expected those dresses on a teenager going to a rave, not on the singers at a children's concert.
This video is only available in VHS, not in a DVD format. For $3 or $4 more, I'd rather have gotten a DVD.

Overall, I'm happy with the video and would recommend it for anyone who's children enjoy the shorts on Noggin. The things that irk me about the video, my daughter doesn't even notice, and it's her opinion that really counts. :)

Movie Review: Different but great!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this video to amuse my 3 year old on a 3,200 mile road trip. She watched it over and over and over. She did not care that the video was different from on tv. She loves the video and all the songs. There is not one song on the video that we don't like. I was slightly disappointed with the different video background than we see on Noggin. However, the video was shot in 2001, and it makes sense that it is different. This video shows why Laurie is such a big hit with kids and parents, and it is definitely worth the money!

Movie Review: So cute!
Summary: 5 Stars

A lot of people are disappointed that this video isn't exactly like Laurie's appearances on Noggin...but this video was made years before, so it's only fair to acknowledge that the video techniques will be slightly less impressive. The "book cut-out" is a little dated (as is the body glitter!) but doesn't take away from the performance.

My daughter LOVES this video and is riveted the entire time--it's great because it gets the kids singing and dancing along. A very worthy purchase!

Movie Review: Laurie's Concert
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this for my 2 year old,I find Laurie's music fun for the both of us.I dont mind the book cut out,you still see all the action,my son sits,(or dances), through the entire video.
I thought the video quality was good,as well as the audio,I would recommend this tape to anyone with a Laurie Berkner fan!
Im so glad I didnt change my mind on the purchase when I read the negative reviews,we have lots of fun watching this one!!

Movie Review: Keeps them occupied!
Summary: 5 Stars

My 2 little boys, 14 mo & 29 mo, LOVE this video. It is one of the few things they will watch, beginning to end. We 1st saw Laurie on Noggin, too, & though not big TV watchers, they were drawn to her cute songs & fun antics. I found the tape at the library, we've renewed it many times & paid so many late fees that I just purchased our own tape.

Re: the simple production quality, my kids don't seem to notice. We also own the "Red Balloon," which they both love & it has the old, grainy quality, too. Both kids LOVE the story within a book format. I didn't appreciate it at first, but by 3rd viewing was amused to see my youngest pointing at the TV & trying to touch the mini Brian as he's trying to climb into the picture. Now they both laugh & call me to look whenever they spot him or the cute dinosaur. I appreciate the low budget aspect of the video, and plan to explain a bit about video production when they're a bit older! My oldest stared intently the 1st couple times he watched, but his comment was about her hair, not her clothes!

I love the fact that Laurie videosits for me while I get dinner together & last but not least, the pretty little 'goodby' song at the end mellows my 2 rowdy toddlers perfectly before our meal.
