VHS Movie Reviews of Desperation Blvd [VHS]Movie Review: A Near Classic Summary: 5 StarsI saw this film at a screening in Chicago several years back and am glad to see it finally is available on DVD. This film is a hoot! Judy Tenuta plays a former child actress who seen better days and tries a number of schemes to get back on top. Watch for Erin Moran, of Happy Days playing an evil version of herself! Too many funny moments to talk about here - the only negative is the cheesy ending but still a very funny film.
Movie Review: Funny and Kinda Sweet Summary: 4 StarsI rented this film because it sounded like an interesting concept and I have to say, I really liked it. I laughed out loud a number of times and thought it kept a nice balance between over the top and believability that is rare in Hollywood comedies. The performance were pretty good, especially Michael Lerner as a deluded talent agent. The scene where the main character, a grown up former child actress, poses as a lesbian in an effort to get publicity for her stalled career is worth the price of the film alone. I can honestly recommend this film and be sure to watch the closing credits to see a tap dancing Anne Frank musical scene that's truly funny.
Movie Review: Desperation Blvd. - do you like B- movies? Summary: 1 StarsI love Judy Tenuta, and she is pretty good in this movie. There are cameos by two of my other favorite comedians, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Emo Phillips. All this made me want to see this movie very much, and I even read some good reviews of it somewhere. It seemed the only way I was going to see it was to buy it - so I did. Well, I had my curiosity satisfied but that is all. The plot idea is a good one, and the editing of the trailer makes it look pretty clever. The editing of the film, however, leaves much to be desired. Every scene seems to drag. They draw everything out trying to make this into a feature length film. There are a small handful of great moments - they last seconds. But the rest of the film is tiresome. I really wanted to like this movie but I can't recommend it.
