Movie Review: Desperately Seeking Madonna
Summary: 5 Stars

This is indeed the Madonna movie. Madonna steals this movie straight out from under Rosanna Arquette's feet. With her utterly classic portrail of the spirited Susan, Madonna steals the entire film. The best thing is, Madonna was being Madonna! Rosanna Arquette stars as Roberta, the bored New Jersey housewife of hot tub salesman Garry Glass. Madonna plays Susan, who hooks up with a guy named Jimmy everytime he places an ad in the personals called "Desperately Seeking Susan." Roberta becomes utterly curious about Susan and decides to follow her to Battery Park where Susan is supposed to meet Jimmy. Roberta then follows Susan around, and buys her jacket that Susan has placed in the care of a thrift store salesman. Roberta then places a "Desperately Seeking Susan" ad in the personals herself. Here, Roberta conks her head, and thinks that she is Susan. A new love interest named Dez (Aiden Quinn) tries to help Roberta remember everything, but he thinks that Roberta is Susan! Susan, in the meantime, tries to help Garry find Roberta. She fishes through Roberta's personal things, and finds such books as "How To Be Your Own Best Friend," and "I'm Okay, You're Okay." Susan later finds out that Roberta thinks she's Susan. When Roberta finds out who she really is, hilarity continues to ensue. If you are a Madonna fan, or want to see a good screw ball comedy you are definately seeking "Susan"! This is a truly hilarious comedy, and one of the most original films in years!

Overall Grade: A+

Movie Review: 'Susan' On DVD - Better Than Ever!
Summary: 4 Stars

What can I say that probably hasn't already been said? I'll just cut to the chase: The DVD Version of this classic 1985 film is amazing. The quality of the picture is so much clearer and sharper than that old video you probably have. Plus, you get a great trailer which you may have never seen, and - the best part, you get the very funny alternate ending to the film (Madonna on a camel circa 1985? Can we say 'fun'?). So if you're a DSS fan, Madonna or Rosanna fan, definitely do not pass up this fab DVD!

Movie Review: The Cannon May Have Misfired, But It's Still A Hit
Summary: 5 Stars

Madonna certainly got into the acting groove with this contemporary classic chronicling the misadventures of bored house wife Roberta (played fantastically by the lovely Rosanna Arquette) and her infatuation with the nomadic Susan (the aforementioned Madonna, playing a character that could only be a reflection of herself.)

The plot is an interesting one, with Roberta following the escapades of Susan and her boyfriend Jim through a series of Want Ads posted by the latter and the former. A lot of crazy stuff happens, in result to Roberta acquiring Susan's jacket, and a slight case of that crafty amnesia leaves Roberta thinking she's Susan and in the arms of Dez, a compassionate film projecter and friend of Jim's.

The movie follows the romance of the two, even though Dez knows - or thinks, rather - that "Susan" is taken.

Rosanna Arquette, who is barely in anything now-a-days, really shines in her role and carries the film with her misguided obsession. Madonna excels as Susan, probably because their personalities are so similar. It's a shame she made so many flops after this film... nearly a decade's worth of blunders on her part... the supporting cast is also exceptional, especially Laurie Metcalf as Roberta's sister-in-law. The woman is truely a hoot in how fickle she can be when it comes to friendship.

"Desperately Seeking Susan" is a great film that shows us what the mid '80s was about, and is perfect for anyone desperately seeking a good time.

Movie Review: New Wave Meets Suburbia
Summary: 5 Stars

An entertaining tale of a bored housewife in Fort Lee, New Jersey who accidentially gets mixed up in the life of a street smart drifter was one of the biggest hits in the 1980's. Not only a hit, this film marked the major film debut of a then rising star named Madonna, and made here a household name throughout the world.

The movie which takes place in New York City circa 1985 revolves around Roberta (Arquette), a disenchanted housewife who is married to the hot tub king of New Jersey. Due to the great amount of free time in her life, Roberta reads the classifieds to follow the movements of Susan (Madonna) who happens to be in the city awaiting the arrival of her boyfriend and his band.

The movie which revolves around a theme of amnesia and a museum heist was an excellent starring for Madonna. Although the film was originally a starring vehicle for Arquette and Aidan Quinn, it was Madonna who stoled the film from the very start. Madonna-mania was sweeping the country at the time, and almost every teenage girl wanted to look and act like her.

Madonna ,who won the role after using smart marketing methods (the producers wanted to cast Ellen Barkin in the role), gave the film many wonderful touches due to her punk look (dirty blond hair, plastic bracelets, lace gloves) and gave me many memories of growing up in New York during the mid-1980's. To further compliment the film, Madonna's hit single at the time "Into the Groove," became the film's anthem, and even today, the song still sounds as good as it did then.

Director Susan Siedelman ("She Devil"; "Cookie"; "Sex & the City") does an excellent job of weaving both script and characters together. Overall this film will appeal to anyone who lived in the Metro New York area during the 1980's, as well as anyone who enjoys the New Wave style of that decade.

The DVD features are great and I was happy to see the original ending that was cut out of the film. It was great to see this, and only the great technology of DVD gives consumers many benefits that VHS doesn't. It was great to see the film's theatrical trailer as well, because trailers then look so poorly produced in comparison to the ones today.

If you are looking for a modern day classic, then this is the film for you. A true classic in '80's cinema.

Movie Review: "Susan!... " - "Ain't goin'stranger!"
Summary: 4 Stars

The movie is like a step back in time into the 80s in a major US city. Madonna plays the very cheeky and trendy "new generation" woman Susan. Rosanna Arquette on the other hand interprets the development from a no-selfrespecting woman into a self-confident one. Also the actor for the role of her husband is picked very well. Some parts of the movie are combined with Madonna's "You can dance" album which is a mega-HIT of 1984 and 1985.After all it's a very entertaining movie that gives u an idea of the 80s culture of people in best age in big cities.
