Movie Review: The very essence of greatness.
Summary: 5 Stars
After watching this, many people feel it changed their life. This is most certainly the case with me. I watched it as an impressionable 12 year old. Up until then my comedic tastes were very ill refined. Not too long before, I had thought Problem Child was one of the greatest films ever. This philistinism in taste changed when I watched this movie.
I hadn't understood the true meaning of irony until watching the Buttercream Gang. It is impossible to articulate the experience one receives in watching it. Suffice to say the experience is pleasurable. It is such a complete and utter trainwreck, it is not hard to see that this was indeed the intent of the film makers. The creators were comedic genius's, and understood the nuances of comedy. In creating a film "railing against" gangsterism, they were in fact satirizing the whole genre itself.
In one sentence, this is a film that turns the genre on its head, and reinvents the term funny. It may very well be the single greatest comedy I have ever seen in my life.
