VHS Movie Reviews of Braveheart [VHS]Movie Review: Brutal, But Epic In Scope & Emotionally Draining Summary: 5 StarsThis is an involving and ultimately draining film. By the time you are done watching it, you are emotionally spent.
What makes this movie so intense is the passion of the main character: Scottish rebel leader William Wallace, played by Mel Gibson, who put his heart and soul into this performance. Add to that a powerful story, great cinematography, excellent action scenes and even some humor....and you have a classic film.
Patrick McGoohan shines as the evil English king and Sophie Marceau, Agnus McFadyen and Catherine McCormack all contribute. I'm sorry the latter had such a short role as her beauty captivated me very much. All the characters in Wallace's "army" are fun to watch, too.
For those a bit queasy with bloody violence, this is not a movie for you. There are lots of gory action scenes that includes limbs being hacked off. This is not a film for the feint of heart. The only objection I have to the violence is the ending. Seeing a man tortured is not my idea of entertainment. Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoy the rest of the three-hour film, an "epic" adventure and look forward to seeing this on Blu-Ray. I believe it is supposed to be released on that format some time in 2209.
The most memorable scene in the film, for me, was not any of the action scenes but just the absolutely stunned look on Gibson's face when he discovers his trusted ally was anything but that. To discover that the key people in the country that you are fighting for are not backing you must have been indescribably crushing to, although since this is the movies I don't know how accurate this was to the real story. Whatever the accuracy, it's a great film and belongs in anyone's collection of epic-adventure films.
Movie Review: One of the greats Summary: 5 StarsThis is great for anyone who is in love with this great movie, the DVD quality is great and no having to change tapes mid way.
Movie Review: WEAK ON HISTORY, BUT GREAT ON STORY Summary: 5 StarsMel Gibson did a wonderful job directing this beautiful, somewhat gruesome epic. Patrick McGoohan as Edward the Longshanks took most of the honors in the acting department, however, with a powerful presence that seethes with sociopathic pride, and malignancy ( and should have been remembered at the Oscars ). This is an exceptionally well-crafted paean to William Wallace's legend, and despite it's liberties with the truth is a very moving, action-packed adventure. Loved it.

Movie Review: Braveheart Summary: 5 StarsMel Gibson did an excellent job on both sides of the camera for the movie, Braveheart. Although Randal Wallace and Gibson took many liberties with the historical context, I personally couldn't care less. The scenery was beautiful, the battle scenes were awesome and the amount of courage and bravery was inconceivable. Although the level of gore (especially certain ending scenes) might turn a few wimpy spectators away, for the more action-oriented viewers, you won't be disappointed.
The movie is an epic tale of 13-century Scottish leader William Wallace, who leads a revolt against England's oppressive Edward I. Although Wallace attempts to avoid the conflict, events eventually force his hand and transport us into a passionate story about what a man will truly do out of revenge for his country and people. Despite the fact, the story turns sour for Wallace towards the climax, the movie does not disappoint the audience with a completely grim ending.
Gibson using stunning camera angles and phenomenal battle scenes that weave an all-around good tale. He portrays the epitome of the Romantic Hero and definitely earns 5 stars from me.
