VHS Movie Reviews of Before SunriseMovie Review: Best love story I have ever seen Summary: 5 StarsFor me this is the best love story I have watched in a film. There characters seem so real and there conversations are so honest you cant help but connect with them. This movie is highly recommended along with Before Sunset.
Movie Review: Touching, thoughtful if a bit talkie Summary: 4 StarsThis quiet, thought-provoking film--aimed mostly at 20-somethings who love to talk endlessly about the world and themselves and how the two fit together--actually ends up transcending its introvertedness and becomes a sweet, poignant story not only of one night spent together by two travelers, but of the human condition, of life and death, and of what it means to love. The two lead actors give very nuanced, subtle performances and invoke emotions without hystrionics. When you're in the mood for a 1.5 hour conversation about "the meaning of it all" from a youthful perspective, this film's the one to check out.
I haven't seen the sequel yet, but I certainly plan to. It was apparently made 10 years later and shows the two characters--ten years later. Sounds intriguing to me. I really want to know what happened to them and how they look back on their night together.
Movie Review: Love can slow time Summary: 5 Stars"Because hate is legislated ... written into
the primer and the testament,
shot into our blood and brain like vaccine or vitamins
Because our day is of time, of hours - and the clock-hand turns,
closes the circle upon us: and black timeless night
sucks us in like quicksand, receives us totally -
without a raincheck or a parachute, a key to heaven or the last long look
I need love more than ever now ... I need your love,
I need love more than hope or money, wisdom or a drink
Because slow negative death withers the world - and only yes
can turn the tide
Because love has your face and body ... and your hands are tender
and your mouth is sweet - and God has made no other eyes like yours." - Walter Benton
I think of this poem of Walter Benton's when I watch this magical movie, about a 14 hour love affair between a young American, played by Ethan Hawke, and a French woman played by Julie Delpy. They meet on a train and spend 14 hours wondering the streets of vienna, dicussing everything under the sun. In the movie, time almost stops as they leave the train - instead of the countryside (and there lives) passing by at high speeds, the pace of life slows to a stroll through an old beautiful city, where you notice only the person by your side. Its truely amazing when you make that kind of connection with someone, and this movie captures almost every nuance of the experience.
What can I say about this film. This is perhaps the best on screen romance of all time. Hawke's and Delpy's chemistry is fantastic. The direction is terrific. One of the most overlooked movies of all time, and one of my absolute favorites.
Movie Review: Perfect Love Story Summary: 5 StarsI rented Before Sunrise and Before Sunset and I was so entranced by these movies,I purchased both of them through Amazon. I believe a great deal of the dialogue was improvised or written by Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke. I loved seeing the sights of Paris and the attraction between the couple -- hoping that they would meet again in six months. I highly recommend this movie.
Movie Review: Seriously under appreciated film Summary: 5 StarsThis is the perfect love story. It explores the interactions of two strangers with such honesty and realism, all in the beautiful Venice landscape. It strips away all the special effects and over the top features of main stream romances and gets real. Give this film a chance to reach into your heart.
