Movie Review: Still Best Aerial Combat Movie After 40 Years
Summary: 5 Stars

I've seen some really dumb reviews for this movie since it came on Blu-Ray. One review called it "a failure as a story". I guess a movie about the first country to stand up against Nazi aggression and Hitler's war machine to fight and stop their takeover is a failure as a story to most meat-heads these days. Nerds probably wanted it fought out by androids that are almost human armed with laser cannons and guys dressed like elves and wizards. But for me, this has to be one of the greatest stories to come out of WWII and the movie undoubtedly has the best aerial combat scenes of any movie to date from any time period. This is due to the use of as many authentic aircraft as possible and giant radio controlled monsters as they could find. Are the effects always perfect or the aircraft 100% authentic? No. But what you wind up with is the closest thing to the historical battle as we'll get without having lived it. This movie shows the key moments and events that happened as effectively as it could from both sides. It gives us a glimps into the personalities that were engaged in combat but keeps focus on the battle at hand. Yes, they had to throw in some love story for the guys at the studio, but it doesn't become a cheesy centerpiece like so many end up. It damn sure isn't Pearl Harbor (thank God), and it's not Band of Brothers, but it still remains as the top movie for air combat that I've ever seen and I recommend it to anyone interested in war birds or military history buffs.

Movie Review: Blu Ray Release
Summary: 3 Stars

I'm disapointed in the Blu Ray release of this movie.
Over the years I've purchased the different format release's, VHS,DVD,Collectors Editions, etc.and was looking forward to a crisp Blu Ray high definition picture.Unfortunately it seems the studio has simply released the SD DVD version with no added features.
Compare this with the Blu Ray release of ' Patton ' which is stunning.

Movie Review: Pretty Poor
Summary: 2 Stars

There is too little story or character development. There are many people shooting at each other, dieing, getting burned, bailing out etc. but that is most of the movie if that is what you want. Though I watched it to the end with my wife. we found it quite boring. My son who I thougt would really like the movie got bored after about 45 minutes and left to play his combat flying computer game.

The few minute scenes with Polish volunteer pilots with the British RAF was a nice touch.

Movie Review: Battle of of Britain (Collector;s Edition)
Summary: 5 Stars

If you owned the VHS copy of Battle of Britain like I did, this is the copy that you want to buy. Wow! What a difference in color, clarity, and sound. The additional feature of interviews with the cast and crew that played (option) while watching the film really shed light on the production and filming. I always wondered how many airplanes were real, and how many were models. Now I know.

If your into films like The Blue Max, 12 o'clock High, and The Hunters, you will want to add Battle of Britain (collector's edition) to your collection.

Movie Review: No "Extras" but fantastic Blu-Ray quality
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased the Collector's 2-Disc Edition a few weeks ago and throughly loved it, especially the Extras disc. Yesterday, I purchased the Blu-Ray disc. The Extras disc on the SD version gave so much important background information about how they were able to create and shoot all of the fantastic aerial shots with only a few airplanes and it gave great info about the actors. This movie has an all-star "A" list of British actors, and who knew that they worked for Union Scale just to help make this film? No inflated "superstar" payments! I agree that the BluRay should have come with an Extras disc. I am so glad that I had purchased the Collector's Edition previously. I watched the SD and Blu-Ray in an A-B comparison today, switching between an Upconverting DVD player and my PS3 being pumped into my Sony SXRD KDS55-A3000 TV with 1080p/120HZ, and the Blu-Ray is just so much better visually that it's hard to describe. I felt like I was standing on the grass air fields right next to the Spitfires, Hurricanes, Heinkels and ME-109's. The movie gets a 5, but not having an Extras disc downgrades the rating to a 4.
