VHS Movie Reviews of Bambi II

Movie Review: Bambi II was a sweet film that does try to live up to the original; however...
Summary: 2 Stars

I must commend disney for Bambi II's good points, such as it's stunning artwork and visuals, and it's timeworn characters, but there we are: the characters are timeworn. Bambi is a 65 year old cartoon, and to make a followup to such an old movie was a big risk on disney's part, but twisting the original story around for Bambi II was an even bigger one. Bambi II takes place between the time when Bambi's mother died and the time when Bambi grew into a buck.
One similarity that Bambi II shares with it's predecessor is that it has no real plot to it; it simply "moves along" from winter to early spring where Bambi begins to grow budding antlers.

The voice acting was not that bad, especially young Ronno's, which sounded fairly authentic to a 1942 film. However, though the target younger audience may not notice this, the rest of the characters sounded noticably different. Alexander Gould does a good job on Bambi's voice, but at times Bambi sounded very modern. I know that a lot of time has passed since 1942, but that is, no matter what the circumstances, no excuse for disney to stray away from the old style treatment that Bambi II's diologue should have recieved.

The songs were mainly sung by Alissen Crauss, thus none of the characters do any singing, thank goodness. Unfortunately, that kind of music just does not fit with Bambi. A nice chorus would have fit in much more nicely. All in all, the songs were a bit country oriented.

Now to Bambi II's strongest point: the animation. The forest visuals were stunning, and the animals were very smooth and polished, unlike many of disney's sequels. I was very pleased with this.

There are also three new characters in Bambi II: Mena, the porcupine, and a worrying groundhog. They added some nice charm to the story... but do deer really celebrate Groundhog Day? At least this gives us disney's perspective as to the time of year that Bambi's mother was killed. Mena makes a brief appearance as a doe willing to take care of Bambi, though I wont reveal the details as that would spoil the plot.
Ronno is actually not a new character; he is the deer that fought Bambi for Faline in the original. He is portrayed as being slightly older than Bambi with a spottless coat and two baby horns, which was very cute. He is obviously plays the part of the "bully", never missing a chance to pick on Bambi's spots to impress Faline.

To sum up Bambi II: The animation was beautiful, some of the best among disney animation, but the plot, though it had it's charming moments, was lackluster and too easily accessible.

Movie Review: Oh, gimme a break
Summary: 1 Stars

This movie wasn't better than Bambi. Far from it. And these guys are right, it's not a continuation of Bambi either. I just find it so hard to believe that after all the h*ll you people have raised over how BAD disney's sequels are just suddenly come and adore this new junk. Bambi ll was so dissapointing, it made me sick. It was bad enough seeing The Lion King 1 1/2 ruin the original LK's perfect plot, but disney making a similar add-on to Bambi is just unforgivable. This is my last straw: I'll never buy another cartoon from disney again.

Movie Review: Great sequels!
Summary: 4 Stars

Wow. This is definitely one of the better Disney sequels out there. And while lots of people said they would rather see a movie about Bambi's fawns, I am actually GLAD this movie isn't about that. I don't know about you, but I'm getting a little sick of Disney sequels being about the main character's children and rebellion. Have you realized that? Lady and the Tramp 2, The Little Mermaid 2 (which is quite possibly the WORST and most BORING sequel ever made), and all those Disney princess 2-movies. It gets a little repetitive.

This movie is different. It's just interesting how Disney decided to make it a midquel. If it had been about Bambi and Feline all grown up with their fawns, I might have avoided it altogether. It's basically about Bambi and his dad. His dad is trying to raise him to become a prince and Bambi feels he can never please. him. I bet lts of us can sympathize. It sounds boring but trust me it's not.

The movie has a little bit of everything: humor, sadness, and even a little bit of scariness. I admit that I wasn't all that interested in it at first and I thought Bambi was a tad annoying, but it got much better. Some parts are just plain funny and maybe a bit childish, but you can't help but laugh, like when Bambi falls on the procuipine or when you hear Bambi's "growl" (youl'' know what I'm talking about once you watch the movie). Trust me it's funny. And you can't help but smile when Bambi and his dad were having such a great time together. It just brings warm feelings to the movie.

But I warn you, if you're like me you might cry at a couple of parts. And one part ( after his dream) is just a TAD scary. Nothing nightmare-ish, but it's a little creepy. Hmm maybe I'm just too sensitive.

The characeters themselves? They were okay, Bambi and his dad being the best. Ronno could have been done better; I do not know the word to describe it but there's just something about him that bugs me. I guess it's just beacuse they decided to make this sequel like half a century later, actually more (for those of you that don't know, Bambi was made in 1942.) Also you got to consider the fact that the animaters aren't exactly hiring the same voice actors. They can't! They're probably all dead! That probaly affects the quality, too. But Bambi was a geat character.

The animation? WOW. It was great, in my opinion. It looked almost the same as the original Bambi! The backgrounds were amazing. Almost real actually. Just plain georgeous.

In conclusion, this is a pretty awesome sequel. Spectacular animation, great storyline, and above all, it at least tries to be original.

Movie Review: My name's Kelly and I hate this movie.

I begged my aunt to buy this. What a mistake. It's boring, stupid, and doesn't say anything about what happened to Bambi before he grew up. It just showed baby Bambi with no spots and tiny horns and then the screen blacked out. I agree with the dad reviewer below that said that Faline was wierd in Bambi 2. Bambi talks WAY too much. None of MY friends talk as much as Bambi does in Bambi 2. I hate this movie.
