VHS Movie Reviews of Abbott & Costello: Who Done It [VHS]

Movie Review: Funny A & C comedy, and a beautiful print
Summary: 4 Stars

Bud and Lou are soda jerks at a broadcasting center, determined to break into radio by solving a murder mystery. This is a very funny Abbott & Costello feature, loaded with the team's ad-lib, free-wheeling routines. The direction and photography would be a credit to any legitimate mystery or horror picture, and the action moves very quickly. The tape also includes a few 1940s movie previews (the "Arabian Nights" trailer is a treat), plus "Juke Box Jamboree," one of Walter Lantz's most ambitious cartoons, and a travelogue about El Paso, Texas. If you remember the moviegoing experience in the '40s, or if you're an Abbott & Costello fan, you can't go wrong with this one. Picture and sound are excellent.

Movie Review: Classic Abbott & Costello. A great addition to your library.
Summary: 5 Stars

I'd say the biggest plus in this film is that there are NO SONGS. Yes, you read that correctly! No songs! No songs?!? No songs!! That's amazing! But it's true. This is perhaps one of the only A&C flicks that does not have some sappy song halfway through (and about every 10 minutes after that) to spoil the great comedy.

It also doesn't have an annoying romance sub-plot to steal the show from the true stars. But aside from the above significant plusses, Abbott and Costello are at their usual best in this film. Some of their best gags are interweaved with a moderately interesting plot. In my opinion, the most hilarious part of the film is when Abbott and Costello read a radio play to try to get a job in a large broadcasting corporation.

Overall, a great film. I'm really looking forward to a release on DVD.

Movie Review: Excellent
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the best.Youll find more laughs than usual. The Mystery is great. Also the setting in a dark radio station. It is great. You wont find better. Some of the best parts are the Telephone scene and the part with the limburger cheese sandwich. You wont want to miss this great A&c video

Movie Review: low brow comedy/mystery...fun to watch
Summary: 3 Stars

This comedy/mystery is fun to watch.Abbott@costello seem to be enjoying themselves. The supporting cast is excellent//perhaps the best of all their films//Abbott@costello meet Frankenstein might match it//. Guess what ? NO MUSIC! Every sequence shows how the team milked all their comedy material..The microphone used in the radio quiz show scene is the actual one from the Kate Smith Radio Show that they appeared on in the late 1930's. It was a good luck charm.... I know every Abbott @costello fan will enjoy this film.

Movie Review: High energy A & C with more laughs than most
Summary: 4 Stars

I've seen most of their comedies but this one slipped past me until recently. Costello is really revved up in this one doing his Curley Howard imitation, tripping over everything and getting outsmarted by just about everyone. His opening scene as a soda jerk making a limburger cheese sandwich is hilarious. Abbott has some great moments also, trying to show Lou how to use a water fountain and trying to explain that watts are volts. This is a fun movie and a special treat for fans of A & C. An added plus...No boring songs!
