Movie Review: KENNETH BRANAGH IS A GENIUS!!!

This is a hilarious film that is a must-have for anyone who loves Hamlet, Shakespeare, or the theatre! I recieved it in the mail, watched it, immediately rewound it and watched it again, and then invited a friend over so I could watch it again! Very well-written & very well-acted; a fine companion to Branagh's '97 Hamlet. I state again, KENNETH BRANAGH IS A GENIUS!!!Movie Review: The Bard would be proud!

My first thought upon watching this movie was "I have to own this one!" I have now seen it four times, and I am sure I have yet to exhaust its humour. Kenneth Branaugh should be lauded for pulling this one together. The only thing more incredible than the stunningly intelligent dialogue is the brilliant filming. My single complaint is that we only get to witness a few brief scenes from the cast's unique rendition of Hamlet. Kudos all!Movie Review: I AM SOOO GLAD THEY ARE FINALLY RELEASING THIS TO BUY!!!

This is the only movie I have ever finished, rewound and immediately started it again. This film was made when by Kenneth Branaugh during a break from the making of "Hamlet." He threw several friends into this script he wrote and it is FANTASTIC! One of the funniest films ever made. This quirky little film about a troop of out of work actors coming together to do Hamlet in a small English town at Christmas is simply superb. Oh, yes, the stereotypes are there, but there are also beautiful moments of dialogue, moments of true emotion, humor, fine acting and good fun. For those of us who enjoy the theater and who love Shakespeare's works, this is an essential film. It illustrates many truths about small companies which attempt great things. A well done film which offers both great humor and great insight. Solid performances bring this wonderful film to life as the play "Hamlet" is brought to a small community by a group of actors down on their luck, but with the passion to perform from their heart. The group of misfits seem to not get along at first, but as time goes on they realize the one thing which binds them is the desire to act...and act well. They bring the typical insecurities of actors with them and must work through them together. Along the way, the main star and director is offered the chance of a lifetime to move on to a solid role in a big hit. His dilemma is to decide between what pays and what makes him truly happy.
The movie speaks to the heart of everyone trying to balance their lives. The search for happiness versus reward is a battle we all face. Unfortunately, we often sacrifice happiness for less rewarding gain. I highly recommend this film to all who love a film that offers more than just mindless entertainment.
