VHS Movie Reviews of 1492 - Conquest of Paradise (Widescreen Edition) [VHS]Movie Review: confusion on the product.amazing nevertheless Summary: 4 Starstake care as this title is not an official catalogue movie in the Us the one i ordered through amazon market place was advised as zone 2 Pal.
No problem but what i received was "all zone" pal english speaking 5.1 no subtitles.
I was expecting for a zone 2 to be french speaking with at least english subtitles.
The explanation is that this advertised zone 2 pal dvd is the UK version.
as for the film this is amazing and i don't understand the review mentioning the transfer is of poor quality. I use a denon upscaling dvd player with a Pioneer 50 inch plasma and the result is awsome.
In sound mixing the central speaker mix is too high. the surrond effects are the best you can have
Movie Review: Great Movie with Great Anamorphic Widescreen Transfer!!! Summary: 5 Starsim not going to go into discussion of this film since you either have seen it or havent, and if you infact havent seen it, its better to see it yourself. I never been one to take others opinons on films but take my own opinon as the basis for rating a film since most people have poor taste in films and rather see what is a summer blockbuster film that has cgi and a high budget then see a film that has a plot or quality performances from the actors, with that said...
This dvd version of 1492 is incredible, it has a crisp Anamorphic Widescreen viewing with a good audio channels for sound and even has a nice bit of Extras that include trailers, interviews with actors and director Ridley Scott. This Film itself is 156 minutes long so the fact they squeezed so much on a dvd is pretty sweet instead of splitting it on a double sided dvd or something else which would have been irritating... So this is a single sided dvd which is convient... Also take note that this is a Region 4 dvd from Australia, so that means you need a region free dvd player or to set your Computer's dvd player to the region 4 format... anyways hope this helps you decide incase you were inquisitve about this title... its a great movie, entertaining and very violent, but done tastefully for a pg-13 movie but makes for a good movie to watch to get a idea of how the america's were discovered...

Movie Review: The beginning of the RIDLEY REIGN .. .. Summary: 5 StarsBeautiful and Stunning portrayal of Columbus that first brought Sir Ridley to my attention and have loved all of his movies since .. ..
The cinematography, sound and his portrayals of ancients lands since 1492 (Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven) is PERFECTION!!
CHEERS SIR RIDLEY!!
Movie Review: Grand Summary: 5 StarsThis is Scott's epic poem, in honor of, Don Cristoval Colon. It is, like many epic poems, philosophical, insightful, and tragic--as if life--no matter what stage on which it is played, no matter whom the players.
The film is art... beautiful art, by talented artists.
Salute! Salute to Scott, salute to all the players and artisans!
Movie Review: A haunting and brilliant portrayal of Columbus Summary: 5 StarsDirector Ridley Scott brings Columbus to life in this impressive film which, when released in 1992, coincided with the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus's discovery of new lands surrounding two unknown continents. For this reason alone, the film deserves to be treasured by viewers all over the world. The subject of Conquest Of Paradise, of course is Christopher Columbus, played wonderfully by French actor Gerard Depardieu (Green Card, Cyrano De Bergerac). Depardieu brings a lot to the role, and creates a realistic portrayal of Columbus. I can't see how any other actor, could bring more to the role, than Depardieu did. In terms of casting, Depardieu's a perfect fit for this role, he resembles Columbus, has a nice smile and sort of a middle age appearance to him, with his long shaggy hair. The rest of the cast shines, and engages the audience. Armand Assante, Sigourney Weaver and Michael Wincott are among some of the film's cast members, and the performances they give are solid. The film succeeds on four of its noteworthy merits. The first one would be Scott's directing, and his reputation for incorporating vivid & gorgeous images into all his films, the second one would be its historical accuracy, the third one would be its score, composed by Vangelis, who can create gorgeous paintings like Scott can, but only to the music he makes. Finally the fourth one would be the casting of Depardieu, who can add spice to basically any film that he stars in.
When this film was released most critics were too analytical about it, and the film didn't draw in big crowds. Now, how films like this get lost amongst the trees, is really mysterious. I think this film's a classic, and maybe others will once this film gets its deserved exposure. The film is full of defining Columbus scenes, it's like traveling back in time, if you haven't seen this film, please do so.
This is the 1492 Definitive Edition release out of Brazil. It is region 0 (ALL). It is the first widescreen release available in the U.S. The quality is very good and it worth to pay a little more because it is widescreen.
